Behind the Story

This piece was written for 100 Word Stories Weekly Challenge #1029: “Broken Light Bulb,” scheduled for publication on January 11, 2026. I recorded the audio performance and produced the sound design using producer.ai and Audacity. The music was edited, rearranged, and shaped to build toward an emotional thematic climax at “most people,” before softening and gently fading into silence to mirror George’s loneliness in the dark.

I originally considered limiting myself to the same restricted-vocabulary challenge Dr. Seuss faced for Green Eggs and Ham, but ultimately chose to let the story breathe instead. The outcome is a small reflection on outdated ideas, isolation, and how quickly the world can move on—sometimes leaving people searching for a light when everyone else is already talking to Alexa.
