Hello, this is Dedric Mauriac, coming at you with show number two for Blue Hair, a podcast about technical gadgets and just about everything else I do in Second Life. So first let’s finish with Podcast L from last week. Podcast L is the thing that actually kicked me off into doing this podcast and actually up to first dance the diva from the broadcast suggested that my podcast could be called Blue Hair because hey, I wear Blue Hair, usually.

Okay, so anyway, what happened in Park Camp SL this weekend? One of the most very fun speakers that I listened to, well, was it speech or conference, I don’t know what it was, but it was cool. And this was Women’s Role in Podcasting by Lynette Radio. Most of us guys went ahead and changed our gender for Lynette’s pleasure so that we could all be women interested, but it wasn’t really that many guys there to be in with. Most of them were women, but we were all having fun and hey, that’s what SL was about, is having fun. Anyway, Lynette gave a lot of good points and mostly was asking a lot of questions for discussion with the audience participation. And before we even got started, the first thing she made us do is get up and dance, so that even made the conference a lot more fun. And I was pretty interested to hear about how a lot of things are perceived in today with how people judge that women are not at all technical when, of course, Lynette Radio is very knowledgeable in the podcasting community and now things now.

Hey, probably a lot more than most people. But she was asking about how a lot of people were introduced and if people started off with couples casting, such as Donna Drew podcast as couples cast because both the male and female and then there’s the bucket podcast with Madison and Cornault and Corey Acula. So there were quite a few and oh yeah, doesn’t banan of course. Okay, so we went through that and most of us were just having a good time laughing and being having fun. Like I said that anyway, one of the next things that came up was a speaker Tom Shad from ShadSongs.com gave a presentation of creating jingles for podcasts and musical beds. And from what I understand a musical bed is something that you play in the background sometimes with like if you’re giving announcements or signing off the show or just introducing the show or just you know, something to talk over when you’re having something short to introduce or sign off. And most often the jingles will be the musical bed with your introduction on the show. I was talking to Madison, we’re asking her where she got her jingle for the bucket podcast and she was talking to me about someone named Geoff.

Geoff of Geoff, that’s Geoff Smith and you can find him over at thegeoffsmith.com. So it’s G-E-O-F-F-S-N-F-D-O-M. And I sent the email over to him and he actually got back to me and quoted me some prices and some time that it would take. So I’ll see how that goes. The price is fairly reasonable. Madison quoted me one price that he gave her and his price went up a little bit but not extremely. So it was very reasonable and of course he’s getting famous as time goes on when he does more of these anyway.

So what’s next? Oh yes, the pod poet gave his introduction about social media, social to the masses. Anyway, I was talking to him tonight about that.

He was surprised that I took a picture but I took a picture of most of the places that I’ve been to and he was just happy to be able to validate to his coworkers that he was actually in a third world virtual reality or whatever giving a speech to people who were also there. So Calls-Based Podcasting is what it was about. So pod poet Clint Quant, C-L-I-N-Q-U-A-N-T. He explained the evolution of his hurricane or helikane website which started off as a poem with anger about what had happened in Louisiana. He started allowing other people to submit to his blog and then it started getting bigger and bigger. It became a podcast and now it’s like some kind of live radio cast. I’m not sure what he said it became but I think there’s a little bit of radio involved in there. He was saying how it helps with social expression and gives the community a place to come together and talk about what they’ve been through.

It’s not just about anger, it’s about how there’s heroes in the story and how there’s hope in religion and just every aspect of a disaster that you can look at. And then he started reading off a few poems as well which was kind of a downer. He didn’t mean it to be but I think next time we’re going to make sure that he’s not the last person on the podcast.

That’s all because you don’t want to end your notes with downers. But he had some very interesting things that he went through and told us all about how this had happened. So that’s podcast in a nutshell.

What’s next? Oh, When Worlds Collide is a show that I had heard about on, was it Mystic Classroom or something? Or Mr. Calla? It was a group that I got a message about saying that this guy was performing over at Durang. So Cypher Rosewood was broadcasting live from the Castle of Masters and apparently this guy’s a real radio personality. But he spends time in Second Life every Monday night. What’s it Monday night? Yeah, every Monday night and goes through some interviews with people and plays some music and this night he was speaking with the author of a website, Love Is There and you can get there with loveisthere.com and he would also play a lot of his own music that he’d made and I was able to find the CD online and purchased it with a massage package CDs. There were like three CDs that were some

Speaker 1: and the people here that I saw were mainly involved with the Elflands. So that’s the kind of people you’ll meet up with if you come to this radio show in the future so that was pretty cool.

No gadgets there though. It was very fun to, not fun but more relaxing than that. Interesting to hear about, I don’t even know what her name was.

She has a shop there though, something about healing with, I don’t know. Alright, so what’s the next one? It’s a great podcast.

Alright, next one is Guns Save Second Lives and I blogged about this one and I was doing my thing in my little server room where I build things sometimes and take care of problems and this guy just comes by and just asks for help. He asks for help, he asks for Linden and he’s like, please, spare me some Linden, please. You know, we all get this from time to time from our newbie friends who are just coming into the game and I just directed him to just look at the money tree at my shop, you know.

So I just went there for it so these people don’t ask me. He had a hard time trying to figure out where the heck my shop was. I mean, the shop’s right next door and he’s like, pretty new but he’s been here for like a month or so. It was just a little over a month so he thought that he couldn’t get money from the money tree but mine set up to allow. Up to 90 days and there’s no restriction on your account type and I actually have it set up to give double the amount that I’m required. So just to be extra special to my newbie friends so that they can’t complain.

Because I used to have all the settings in place by default that would allow 30 people, 30 days or less, and paid accounts only and I started getting a lot of nasty grants from that. So anyway, this guy, he couldn’t find any linens on the trade but I directed him to Survey Next which gives you 5 linens, one per person, it’s a one type thing. And you know he was like oh great, 5 linens, what am I going to do with that?

I’m like don’t spend it in one place. But the deal was this guy is over 30 days old and he doesn’t know Second Life that well. And I started talking with him asking, trying to get a feel for what he can do and I was telling him you can make money if you can find your niche of what you like to do.

And I was explaining to him the different things that are available. There’s always dancing and camping which I don’t like those too much but you know they’re out there. The other thing was there are game shows that you can host. If you’re going to DJing, you can DJ parties and coordinate events.

What else is there? If he’s going to be in clothes or building things, and he said he wasn’t good at building things. And I kind of pressed into that a little bit more and found out that he actually did build things. He built guns and he said he was pretty good at building guns.

However he couldn’t make them work and I’m like well you were in luck. Apparently in our library we all have this object in there called a pop gun. I know this because I used it before to figure out how to make the balls to be thrown at my dunking booth that I made for the Caledon Jail and Mail event back in the year when they were raising money for the Relief for Life. So anyway this gun I took out of inventory and he took his out of inventory. It was a little toy pop gun that was pretty toyish. The main thing was I was telling him you just drop the scripts into your gun and then you make a bullet and drop the scripts into the bullet and put the bullet in the gun.

And then you’re done. So he was pretty much flabbergasted. He was very happy and surprised that this was even there. He just spent like an hour just working on his gun in my shop because now he had something to do. He could start learning scripts too if he wanted to figure out how to tweak it a little bit or something. But in that case I think if it had guns in his second life it’s because he knew how to build a gun and he didn’t realize he could get the whole complete set to actually start living his life by making some money here and there. Of course he was a bit concerned about it won’t be as good as the others but I was like yeah but it will still work and you can sell it. So that will be pretty cool.

I thought that was a pretty nice thing to do to actually bring that out and get him actually thinking how to do things. So let me see. One of the things I saw today was these microdividend distributors.

And I don’t know what to think about these things. It seems like some kind of scheme to me and what it is is there’s this machine that you walk up to and you pay a fee to become a user. And what this enables you to do is every day thereafter including that day you can get money back out of the machine.

It’s a very small amount. You can get it every single day that you walk up and touch the machine. The more people that sign up after you the higher the money is paid out to you each day. So where’s the catch is I think well if you’re starting out with these $45 ones that are brand new with just a little bit of users it probably could work out for you very good because you’d pay $45 to begin with but later on. You’re pulling out quite a lot of money every day. But the new people who join up are paying like $200 a month lindens and they’re just getting $40 a day or I don’t know it’s probably only like $10. I don’t know how much you get a day.

That’s the one question. How much do you get a day depending on what the rate is and the number of users. The other thing is these machines the one that had the most people stop working it wouldn’t respond to anything of me touching it. But the other ones when I touched them they would give me the menu saying you know do you want to register do you want help do you want to get your money out things like that. So these things don’t seem to scale too well when you get a lot of people and they start paying out the big bucks. And I’m also concerned about the person who’s actually hosting this machine. I don’t know they could get rid of the machine any day.

It’s just a risk but the other issue is you know can you only get your money for so many days or you can get it forever. I just smell scheme all over it. So right the last thing is I was helping Dr. Fran Babcock. We’ve heard her name many times a lot in this podcast but I’ll try and limit the number this time. I had helped her figure out how to make a staff rotate when you hold it in your hands and she invited me to the first day that she was teaching it to the class. And I went there to hang out and she did pretty good actually.

There really weren’t that many problems. The only suggestion I had for her was to change how the objects were made in the beginning. And she had realized she had said that she always did it the way that I had suggested. The reason she didn’t was because she was using my original instructions to her to figure out how to do this thing. So she’s probably going to go back over and proofread what I did and what I said and rewrite it to her own specifications for the next class. There were I don’t know I think there were like 30 some odd people. She said it 36 I think. That actually showed up for the class and people were loving the staff.

It was very nice to see everybody so happy about that. Later on someone actually sent just the planet revolving around an object that she put on her head. So she has the planet earth revolving around her head and it started giving me ideas.

I made like eight stars and a ring and they would rotate around my head and then they would rotate around their own axis. And the doctor and I, I’m trying not to say her name. The doctor and I went ahead and decided maybe I could make this into a class of her own. And I was concerned because she always offers a lot of a lot of different images and textures with her classes. And all I had was the stars.

So she had given me quite a few textures for me to hand out angels and stars, different kinds of stars and stuff. So I need to work on that this weekend to make that into a class. All right, not too many technical things as this podcast. I just felt that I really need to get something out this time.

I want to at least get two of these out a week so I can get some more active, be more active in doing podcasting. All right, so, oh yes, there is something coming up. I want to say this before. Where is it? Some kind of gadget thing.
