My dad and his wife, Jean, could use your prayers.
When I first met Jean, I noticed that my father was happy in a way I had never seen before. He was hopeful, happy, and focused, and her love for him was over the top then, and still is now. He even built a large house for them to live in together.
My dad is not your average dad. He is very smart. I wish I could say I inherited all of that from him, but my brother may have gotten the smart gene. I could tell you stories, but I think your eyes would glaze over. It can be hard for people to find someone who loves them for who they are behind their intellect. He found Jean.
Jean has been on a journey with Alzheimer’s for the past two years, and Dad has been by her side through it, rarely able to leave the house for more than a few minutes unless someone else could stay with her.
He was told yesterday that she may not make it through the weekend. I spent some time with them today, holding her hand while asking Dad to share stories about their life together. At this point, there isn’t anything more the hospitals can do. Our focus now is on keeping her comfortable and managing her pain.
My siblings will be arriving tomorrow, and I’ll be heading back to be with everyone. Please keep Dad, Jean, and our family in your prayers as we help them through this difficult time.
Thank you.
