County Supervisors Confronted by Multiple Departmental Budget Requests Among Other Topics as FY-27 Approaches

Summary

This article briefly mentions my public comment at the June 2 Warren County Board of Supervisors meeting, although my name was misspelled as “Lewis Motin.” My remarks came about an hour and a half into the meeting, during public comment, and focused mainly on oversight of budget transfers between departments and the need for greater transparency when county funds are moved or reallocated.

The article also matters to me because another speaker raised a related issue I had already been discussing with the supervisors: tax relief for the elderly and disabled. In his case, disability income and retroactive benefit payments appeared to affect local eligibility, even though he and his wife reportedly had no taxable income. That highlighted the kind of real-world problem I have been trying to bring to the Board’s attention.

From my perspective, the article documents two areas of civic concern I have been following closely: clearer public tracking of county financial decisions and a more careful review of how local tax relief rules affect seniors and residents with disabilities.
