Supporting Rural Worship

At this public hearing, I spoke in support of a faith community seeking room to grow in Warren County.

I do not personally attend this congregation, and it is not a place I normally visit. But I strongly support the ability of people of faith to have a place where they can gather, worship, and build community together.

The proposal struck me as modest and thoughtful. The congregation had already gone through a great deal of planning and review, including the Planning Commission process. While there were legitimate concerns about road access and distance, it sounded like those concerns were being taken seriously and worked through.

I also appreciated the broader meaning of the request. I used to live in Woodbridge when there were still woods everywhere, so I understand the value of keeping rural places connected to what belongs there. Seeing a congregation find space to breathe and grow in the country felt encouraging.

Local government often deals with technical issues: roads, access, zoning, setbacks, traffic, and public safety. Those details matter. But behind those details are people trying to build community.

In this case, I wanted to offer my support to that small community of faith and to their efforts to create a place where people can gather.
