3D Model Fly-Through

I created this model of a modem I had in 1995 in 3D Studio Release 4 while attending the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I created textures for the PCB circuit board markings and resistor color bands with Adobe Photoshop. Some of the parts were made with lofting. Mirroring was nearly impossible due to rendering time, so I had to use an image for environment reflections instead. I hadn’t experimented much with camera movement and animations, so this was a simple fly-through and playing with a barrel roll. The image resolution is low due to limitations in CPU power, storage space, and time. This is a 56K modem that I owned and observed for reference.

This was originally an AVI file made around late winter of 1995 using 3D Studio release 4 (3DSr4). I’m unable to upload video files to my website’s host, but I can upload GIFs! I also slowed down the original video so that you can appreciate the components more. So behold the flyby! I also uploaded the AVI image to YouTube.
