Navigation over Narrative: A Minimalist Cyberpunk Overhaul

Home Page

I moved the home page about me and such under “About/Lewis Moten”. In its place, the front page now has a landing page. The home page no longer displays the title (“About”).

A few simple icons pointing to the moved page, as well as the top-level menu items (Chronicles, Career, Community, Hobbies), are now displayed. I added a link to the podcasts, since some people may reach the landing page via a podcast feed. I tried using a query builder to display the top-level pages, but I couldn’t set it to show pages where the parent ID is 0 or null. I tried a few other plugins that promised the ability to filter on the missing parents, but didn’t get anywhere. I don’t like it, but the front page is now detached from the pages’ featured images, titles, and excerpts.

I went ahead and created a few images using DeepAI’s cyberpunk theme to represent the site’s areas. For some images featuring people, I used ChatGPT to replace the people with images of myself. The face looks a bit off, but it’s similar.

Below the main places to go, I added a small search form that lets you search everything. Last – I added links under the “About” menu, including Lewis Moten, Contact, profiles, site purpose, disclaimer, and privacy policy.

The contact page is new. Rather than adding a contact form, I decided to list my email, messenger, and calendar scheduling information.

The calendar is displayed via the Styled Calendar plugin. Rather than just showing unavailable times, I decided to show what’s on my schedule for the month. I’ll have to keep focused on what is being exposed via Google Calendar.
