Library Workshops
The past few days have been a whirlwind, beginning with my trip to Richmond. Before leaving, I prepared a proposal for a series of library workshops on the Raspberry Pi, detailing costs for materials, intended audience, and community benefits. I sent this to the library director for review, hoping to kick off some hands-on tech sessions soon.

Joining the Sons of the American Revolution
While I was away, I received the exciting news that my application to join the Sons of the American Revolution was approved! There’s a breakfast gathering this weekend, so it won’t be long before I’m dressed in full Militiaman attire for upcoming events.

Honoring Veterans on Veterans Day
The day after my return home was Veterans Day. I attended the ceremony in Middletown, VA, where a Blackhawk helicopter flew overhead, hovering while we waved American flags. Members of SAR also presented the colors, making the occasion even more impactful.
Learning the Laser Cutter
After a quick stop at the Chamber of Commerce to drop off an application for the Christmas Parade, I headed to the library to get trained on the laser cutter. I’m planning to hold workshops to teach others how to use it for various creative projects. To start, I dug up my family crest as a test design.

The session was full of inspiration, and we shared ideas for a variety of laser-cut projects. Some initial projects include keychains, magnets, bookmarks, drink coasters, and jewelry. As we progress, we can tackle more complex items like LED lanterns, Christmas ornaments, puzzles, D&D tokens, garden markers, cipher wheels, cryptex boxes, layered dioramas, clock faces, and maze games. I’ll be fine-tuning the plans to ensure we have the right materials, costs, and time for each workshop.
Planning for Raspberry Pi Workshops
Once back in town, I met with the Library Director to discuss the Raspberry Pi workshops in detail. We went over the basics of the device, the benefits it could bring to participants, and considerations for reusability and budgeting. I was tasked with providing a detailed cost breakdown, which I quickly completed using my initial estimates, moving us closer to launching the workshops! I also had a chance to check out the library’s Sphero robots, and started thinking about ways to incorporate them into the sessions.
