In many organizations, a simple majority is enough to move forward. Freemasonry is different. It operates on the principle of unanimity. When the Brothers of Unity Lodge No. 146 met on that Wednesday night, every Master Mason present had to agree that I was a fit and proper candidate.

The email from the lodge Secretary arrived on Sunday morning, April 9. It was a formal “green light” that triggered the next phase of the process. It reminded me that being a Mason means being dedicated to the highest moral standards while balancing my obligations to family, career, and God.

The Medieval Roadmap

What caught my eye was the mention of what comes next: the rituals and catechisms. The email described them as having been passed down since medieval times—essentially a “human-to-human” encryption that has remained unbroken for centuries. The Secretary’s note outlined the immediate next steps:

• Scheduling: Coordinating the “Entered Apprentice” degree.
• Continued Fellowship: An invitation to keep attending dinners and public events while the degree was being planned.
• Community: An encouragement to invite any Mason friends I had to witness the ceremony.

Receiving this notice was a profound moment of “system verification.” Every requirement had been met, every background check cleared, and every Brother had given their consent. The “forensic inquiry” into my life was complete; it was now time to begin the actual work of a Mason.
