Mother, Lumpectomy Scheduled

A correspondence with my mother on January 27, 2013, she had a lumpectomy scheduled for January 31 to see how aggressive the cancer was. There were lesions on her liver that may be addressed later. Mom stated that you can cut a small amount of the liver away, and it will slowly reproduce itself.

Regarding any pain that she was in, she stated that radiation treatments weren’t causing any pain, but caused lightheadedness and nausea. There were talks about doing chemo treatments later, but it sounded like it would be a drag, and she wasn’t aware of when it would start.

Regarding the optimism on the removal of the cancer, Mom explained that the cancer was a silent killer, as it has no pain except for the treatment. She said that since it was in the bone, it would never be gone.

Regarding questions on family history, he stated that no one on her side of the family had cancer. Her mother died of dementia, and had gotten diabetes because of the dementia. Her father had a stroke caused by her mother. There was also something mentioned about her paternal grandmother having two legs removed due to diabetes.

The story I had always heard was that my maternal grandfather had died of a heart attack, so she may have misspoken, given the lightheadedness. However, Mom was always adamant that his death was caused by her mother.
