Summary

A team renovates an aging barn slated for rebuilding, its structure so worn that gaps show through the walls. While working on the slanted second-floor deck, the narrator carefully lets heavy boxes slide away rather than risk falling. A small child repeatedly climbs up his legs to enter the barn, forcing him to brace himself inside the doorway to avoid being pulled down the steep incline.
Later, the group dismantles rusty fuel tanks outside the barn, confident they’re empty. As screws loosen, one tank catastrophically ignites, engulfing a coworker and another helper in a sudden blast. Panic erupts as everyone runs, followed by grim, dark humor about danger only being noticed once it’s too late—when “your head is already on fire.”

Analysis
This dream reflects anxiety around responsibility and unseen risk. The unstable barn and slanted deck suggest fragile foundations, while the child clinging upward symbolizes unexpected obligations. The explosion underscores fear that confidence and routine can mask real danger until consequences are unavoidable.

So, I was fixed. A team of us were renovating this old barn. And the first thing we’re doing is getting everything out of it because we’re going to build a new one. Same barn, but as soon as it’s just so old that you could see cracks through the sides, paint was worn down. And I was up on the second floor packing boxes and I was going to take one out as soon as I walked out on the deck on the second floor level. It was just a big angle going down.
I really had to get a hold of myself and just let the box slide off the end of the deck. Then this little girl came around and I was crawling up my legs. So, she would get into the barn by crawling up my legs. And with the rumor there too, it was trying to come around and crawl up on me. So, I just dug in more into the, went just to the inside of the door so she wouldn’t pull me down.
So, I’d fall off the deck. Later on we were all taking apart these, um, these little little girls. Canisters, not canisters, but um, some kind of fuel for painting or tanks in front of the barn. They were all rusty and I was concerned that they weren’t empty but little women were pretty sure about it. So, I was taking apart mine and she was taking apart hers. But the sign even, get taken apart, we were all just unscrewing things and suddenly I just see a big golf, a flying just engulfing her in somebody else that was helping her hold things. And then we all ran back to everybody else and we don’t know what, don’t know what that happened. Um, um, I don’t know what happened. I don’t know what happened. So, I was just one guy I was seeing. You only felt nothing until your head was on fire. That was kind of a joke but apparently you’d have actually had to hit him in the past.
