Before Visual Studio became the all-in-one development environment we know today, Microsoft Visual InterDev 6.0 was the powerhouse IDE driving professional web development on the Microsoft stack. This was the tool I lived in every day at work, building and maintaining real production applications—and I wanted formal validation of that expertise.

On September 27, 2000, I earned Brainbench Master Certification in MS Visual InterDev 6.0, adding to the Microsoft certifications I had already achieved in the platform. At the time, Brainbench exams were globally recognized, psychometrically validated, and trusted by employers in more than 100 countries, so achieving Master-level proficiency wasn’t just symbolic—it represented verified capability.

Visual InterDev mattered because it brought serious engineering practices to web development. It unified ASP, VBScript, ADO, COM, database connectivity, debugging, deployment, source control, and UI tools into a professional workflow at a time when the web was rapidly evolving from static content into dynamic applications.

The certification covered real-world professional development areas, including:

• Active Server Pages (ASP) objects, syntax, and functions
• ADO and database connectivity, SQL, and data handling
• COM integration and reusable components
• Structured debugging with breakpoints, watches, and runtime inspection
• Deployment strategy and environment targeting

The exam itself was endorsed by the International Webmasters Association, emphasizing its professional relevance.

Looking back, this certification marks a time when web development matured into true application engineering—where discipline, architecture, data management, and tooling became essential. Visual InterDev shaped how I approached structured development, collaboration, quality, and deployment, lessons that continue to influence how I build today.
