This article reports that I was recognized as a first-year camper at Older 4-H Camp in mid-1993, receiving a “Lucky Penny” award, and that I was also awarded a Challenge Scholarship through the 4-H Leaders Association. Together, these acknowledgments reflect early youth participation and community support during my involvement with local 4-H programs.

4-Hers earn H’s
REESES MILL – Heart, Head, Hand and Health “H’s” were given out as Older 4-H Camp ended in mid-June.
Both Sandy Burrell and Mandy Miller were given heart H’s; Nathan Stone, head H; Adrienne Lantz and George Hawkins, hand H; and Edgar Leatherman, health H. Carrie Rotruck was named “spirit” of the camp.
Lucky Pennys were given first-year campers Jessica Am-tower, Joe Fazzalore, Lewis Moten III and Jamie Smith.
Lucky Nickels were given sec-ond-ycar campers Becky Combs, Jenny Davey, Josh Gordon, Daniel Heavener, Bonnie Moten, and Valerie Yutzy.
Chiefs of the various tribes were Sandy Burrell, Delaware; Laura Valentine, Cherokee; Candice Bosley, Mmco; and Nathan Stone, Seneca.
The Loy Leatherman Memorial Scholarship went to George Hawkins.
Other Challenge Scholarships for 1994 were awarded as follows:
—Alpha I: Candy Bosley and Marnie Bruckey.
—Alpha II: Stephen Starcher and Shawn Swick.
—Older Members Conference: Andrew Peer and Laura Valentine.
—4-H Leaders Association: Mandy Fazzalore, Lori Mielecki, Abby Miller and Lewis Moten.
—County All-Star: Emily Fleming.
—State All-Star: Marla Fazzalore.
Working toward their charting pin were Christy Brantner, Candice Bosley, Jill Launi, Marla Fazzalore, Laura Valentine, Angela Franklın, Lor Mielecki, Sandy Burrell, Andrienne Lantz, Amanda Taylor and Geoffrey Schadler. While at Camp Mmco and involved in this effort, campers learn more. about themselves, set the goals and try to obtain them. Camp director Kay Davis said that the charting pin is the second highest 4-H award attainable.
While the campers at Older Camp enjoyed the Camp Minco surroundings, leaders called “Big Feet” helped them apply the 4-H theme of “A Whole New World” to their camp experience. Those leaders were Edith Amtower, Dave Davis, Cindy Fazzalore, Larry Fazzalorc, Birch Graves, Jackie Hare, Choaryl Nestor, Co-leste Rotruck, Colleen Rotruck, Darrell Rotruck, John Stone and Denise Willis.
