Yes, it’s true. King Charles III and Queen Camilla are visiting the area and stopping in Front Royal for the country’s 250th-anniversary block party & parade. What fascinates me most is how tightly the news was guarded on social media until yesterday morning. In a small town, that alone is impressive.
There were already signs that something unusual was happening. Schools closed. Parking restrictions appeared for two days. This was normal… but the parking restrictions were excessive.

Then, gates and security fences started going up seemingly everywhere. I’ve seen Main Street and parts of Chester Street blocked off before for major events, but this goes far beyond anything I can remember. Surrounding streets and parking areas are locked down as well. Honestly, this feels even bigger than the visit from Bing Crosby, which people around town still talk about today. There are also plenty of details on a web page for guest etiquette and prohibited items, along with a form for a royal parade invitation.
One of the more interesting things has been watching how quickly people embraced AI-generated humor surrounding the visit, especially after hearing so many arguments against AI recently. My assumption is that this probably happens in many small towns whenever royalty comes to visit. Kings and Queens can feel distant and ceremonial, especially after hearing that some businesses were asked to dress down for the occasion.
Instead of treating the visit with stiff formality, people began placing the King and Queen in ordinary local situations using AI-generated images. Suddenly, they were eating pizza downtown, kayaking the Shenandoah River, visiting local shops, and appearing in all kinds of familiar places around town. It almost feels like a collective effort to bring royalty down to the level of ordinary community life, interacting with common folk through an inside joke that everyone understands.
I’m genuinely curious whether this kind of thing happens everywhere they go. I also wonder if the President and his family inspire the same sort of AI-generated local humor whenever they travel.
