Youth Protection Training

Being a member of the Sons of the American Revolution is about more than just honoring the ancestors of the past; it’s about protecting and inspiring the citizens of the future. Early in the morning, I took an essential step toward that mission by completing the Youth Protection Training through SAR University.

While much of our work involves genealogy and historic preservation, a vital part of our chapter’s outreach is working with young people—specifically our local Boy Scout troops. Whether we are teaching them about the flag, explaining the significance of the Revolution, or working alongside them in community service, their safety and well-being are our top priorities.

Certificate

This training was specifically timed to prepare me for this year’s Wreaths Across America event. During this solemn day at Prospect Hill, we often have dozens of Scouts helping us place wreaths on the graves of our veterans. Having this certification ensures that I can participate fully as a leader and mentor, providing a safe and productive environment for these young patriots as they learn the value of “Remember, Honor, and Teach.”

It’s a different kind of “service” than what my ancestor John Plumley did when he was recruiting for the Continental Army, but the goal is the same: ensuring that the flame of liberty and the spirit of service are passed down correctly to those who will carry them next.

I’m looking forward to heading back to Prospect Hill this month—this time with the training and tools to help our local youth make the most of this powerful experience.
