Gazebo Chats and SAR Updates
The Gazebo on Main Street was the heart of Front Royal today as our community gathered for the Salute to Service Memorial Day Event. There is something incredibly grounding about seeing the flags flying and neighbors coming together to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
While the day centered on remembrance, it also offered a chance to reconnect with the Virginia Sons of the American Revolution (VASAR). I stopped by their vendor booth to see the local chapter in action and to ask a few questions about the application process.
It has been nearly three months since I first reached out about my ancestor, James Sowder. I was curious about the current processing times, as I’m eager to officially join the ranks. The members at the booth were welcoming and helpful, directing me to contact the Chapter Genealogist for an update on where my paperwork stands.
Standing there on Main Street, surrounded by the sights and sounds of a grateful community, the wait for my “official” membership felt like part of a much larger story. Whether through my current research or by attending local events like this one, the goal remains the same: to ensure the legacy of service is never forgotten.
I’ll be reaching out for that update this week—hopefully, the next update will bring me one step closer to induction!
