Honoring the Past: Applying for the Virginia Sons of the American Revolution

There is a unique thrill in realizing that your family’s story is woven into the very fabric of American independence. Today, I officially took the first step toward joining the Virginia Sons of the American Revolution (VASAR).

The process of proving a direct line to a Revolutionary War patriot can be daunting, so I decided to do it right. Following a recommendation from a friend, I reached out to a professional genealogist to help navigate the records and ensure my application is airtight.

My research currently centers on James Sowder. I’ve spent the morning organizing the documents I have—birth certificates, marriage licenses, and census records—to pass along for professional review. While I know the road to approval requires patience and precise documentation, I’m excited to see where these records lead.

Joining the SAR isn’t just about a certificate on the wall; it’s about preserving the stories of those who sacrificed to build this nation. I look forward to uncovering more about James Sowder’s life and service as this process unfolds.

The hunt for history is officially on!
