Summary
Dedric skips PodCamp Pittsburgh at the last minute and pivots to PodCamp Philly (Sept 7–9, 2007 at Drexel University), hoping to sharpen his podcasting skills and connect with people he already knows. He then highlights William Pitre’s first rez-day and the three-day “SL Woodstock” party spanning multiple regions, packed with live performances and DJ mixes between acts—an in-world festival vibe that shows Second Life’s music culture running at full tilt.
From there, Dedric covers major community events and web-identity tooling: Burning Life is announced for its 5th year as a commerce-free collaborative art build (land use free and not counting against tier), and SLCC (Second Life Community Convention) is coming up in Chicago, Illinois (Aug 24–26) with business, education, machinima, and social tracks. He also chats with SignpostMarv Martin about SLOpenID (built on OpenID) and learns about onXiam for listing your online services, then wraps with a trip to the Second Life Wildlife Nature Reserve to grab animated critters (squirrels, rats, etc.) by Cloud Insoo for his Woodbridge sim.

Speaker 1: 02.00, Blue Hair, 13.00, Oh, this is gonna be scary.
Speaker 2: Hey, everybody, this is Degic Moria coming to you live from Chasp Blaster. So, let’s get everything started, shall we? Alright, so, what’s happening this weekend is Podcamp Pittsburgh, which I decided last minute not to go to. I was told by Madison Carmel that there’s gonna be a Podcamp Philly up in Philadelphia on September 7th through the 9th, and I’ll probably go up to that one instead, since it’s much closer, and I actually know somebody who’s going to be there. Okay, what exactly is Podcamp? Podcamp is pretty much where you have an informal get-together or a conference of such, and people, fellow podcasters, teach others about podcasting, so that should be very fun for me and informative to learn how to actually podcast for a change. Alright, so anyway, I should probably start you guys off with a song.
I’ve actually got quite a few good ones off of Podscher Network. This fresh one here is going to be Stipping Stone, so let me get this started off for you guys.
Speaker 3: Oh, now my head keeps spinning. Oh, now I’m right back in. Oh, now I want your name. Oh, now I guess it’s the passing time. Oh, now I’m right back in. Oh, now I’m right back in.
Oh, now I want your name. Oh, now I guess it’s the passing. Oh, now I’m right back in. Oh, now I’m right back in. Oh, now I’m right back in.
Speaker 1: Oh, now I’m right back in. Oh, now I’m right back in. Oh, now I’m right back in. Oh, now I’m right back in. Oh, now I’m right back in. Oh, now I’m right back in. Oh, now I’m right back in. Oh, now I’m right back
Speaker 3: in. Hey, it’s just amazing I have to do this. Just a small time. I’m not a train going anywhere. I’m not a train going anywhere. I’m not a train going anywhere. I’m not a train going anywhere. I’m not a train going anywhere. I’m not a train going anywhere. I’m not a train going anywhere. I’m not a train going anywhere. I’m not a train going anywhere. I’m not a train going anywhere. I’m not a train going anywhere. Don’t stop believing. Hold on to the feeling. Don’t stop believing. Hold on to the feeling.
Speaker 1: Don’t stop believing. Hold on to the feeling. Don’t stop believing. Hold on to the feeling. Don’t stop believing. Hold on to the feeling. The contest is over. The contest is over. The contest is over. The contest is over. The contest is over. The contest is over. The contest is over. The contest is over. The contest is over. The contest is over. The contest is over. The things you love. You’ve left behind. You’re far away from home. The language news.
Speaker 3: And all you feel. Your inkball come at all. When you feel it, can you feel it? Can you feel it not like this? And it’s true. Yes it’s true. When I’m a part of you. Whatever I can say. Whatever I can do. Cause I know it’s you. Whatever I can find.
Do is your word in mind. Cause I know it’s you. Cause I know for sure it’s you. You fall out fear. You’ve lost your trust. You know what you’ve been through. But I am here.
Without a doubt. I’m gonna stick to you. Can you feel it? Can you feel it? Can you feel it not like this? And it’s true.
Yes it’s true. When I’m a part of you. Whatever I can’t say, whatever I can’t do, Cause I know it’s you, whatever I can’t find, Too easy a word in mind, Cause I know it’s you, Because I know for sure it’s you. Want to stop your loud barrier crying, Want to see you soon with a smile in face.
Now, we better stop moving, To build a better place. Whatever I can’t say, whatever I can’t do, Whatever I can’t say, whatever I can’t do, Cause I know it’s you, whatever I can’t find, Too easy a word in mind, Cause I know it’s you, Whatever I can’t say, whatever I can’t find, Too easy a word in mind, Cause I know it’s you, Whatever I can’t find, Because I know for sure it’s you, Cause I know it is you. Hey everybody.
Speaker 1: So, this girl stuff fits you. So, next on the list is SLCC. I don’t know if anybody has heard of this much. It seems like a lot of people haven’t heard of it for some reason. SLCC is the Second Life Community Convention. If you’re in the States, Or actually you could come from anywhere, But it’s pretty much in the middle of the United States, In Chicago, Illinois. And it’s a big gathering of a lot of SL residents, And a lot of limited employees, As well as many businesses that are trying to make it in Second Life.
As well as educational institutes, And a few other things. This year it’s between August 24th to the 26th. That’s next weekend. So I’ll be taking off work and leaving on Thursday, And I’ll be arriving there Thursday night, And I’ll be all nice and shiny and awake for the weekend, To say hello to all my SL friends. So it’s a place I can go to where I actually know people, Who are, you know, I guess strangers in a way, But you know, people died out.
Weird, huh? So there’s actually four tracks in this SLCC. There’s a business track, an education track, A machine-a-ma track, and a social track.
These are all going on at the same time. If anybody’s unaware of what machine-a-ma is, It’s basically making movies of Second Life, What you see. So you can record everything you see into a movie file, And then edit it, put it together, and splice it and whatnot, And wham! You have a movie.
I actually have a movie thing on YouTube, Or little clips and stuff that I took. Nothing put together into any storylines yet, So I’m still debating on it. Alright, so, this next song, This next song is really great. It’s not like most of the other ones I’ve been playing. It’s more of a, I guess, more like folk song, in a way. So, I better just stop the ad-burning, Just let you guys actually listen to it for a change. So, if I just do this, And then I do that, and then, and then, Alright, here we go.
Speaker 4: I was a singer in the night I was not a beat boy Not even a guitarist La la la la la la la la la la la la la la In London and in Paris I sang in the underground I sang in restaurants La la la la la la la la la la la la la la There was a bar in the flea market They liked to leave me I came every Sunday La la la la la la la la la la la la la la Of course, I had a few friends All of them had guitars We took the life and it came La la la la la la la la la la la la la la At the square of the coffee bar We met around a beer And we spoke until the dawn La la la la la la la la la la la la We lived in a room on the roof We lived in hotels We didn’t have holidays La la la la la la la la la la la la la la La la la la la la la la la la la la Sometimes before sleep I see the roofs of Paris I hear the sound of the town, La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la.
Speaker 1: Hey everybody, Jedgic Moriac here. So what do you think? A good song? Nice though. I couldn’t understand most of his other songs because they’re not in English, so a few of them are in English, and I particularly like that one a lot. Alright, so what’s next? Signpost Marv Martin. Do you guys know him? I do. I actually heard from him in a while, but I am the group of people who are involved with SL Open ID, or at least trying it out, and I got to give a little chat with him afterwards, and he shared me a lot of cool gadgets and such. The main topic of the conversation of the night was SL Open ID, of course. If anybody does not know what SL Open ID is, it’s based on Open ID. Open ID, as some of you may be more familiar with who have Word, PressVlogs, is pretty much an open standard for you to have an account on one service, but to be able to use that same account to authenticate yourself among many, many other services. So if I have an account on my journal, I could authenticate with that account over on WordPress, even though I may not have a WordPress account. So they, all these different systems like to communicate with each other and exchange not really exchange too much information, it’s just saying, yeah, this guy is a real person and the E does use my service.
So, you know, you can use me. SL Open ID goes on top of that, but it also lets you prove that you are a specific person in Second Life. So if I, the only way I can get an SL Open ID account, or SL Open ID URL, is if I register through Second Life onto this website, and then I can use that Open ID on any other website.
Anybody looking at another website could say, yes, he is definitely Desik Mariek from Second Life because nobody else in Second Life could imitate that that is him. So what else is there? Oh yeah, we talked about flags that he made that change and clocks. He really likes to make different kinds of loud clocks. I showed him one of my block clocks that I call a weird clock, W-Y-R-D.
It looks like a binary clock when you first look at it until you realize what’s going on and you just count up how many primes are lit up for each digit, but the primes keep swapping randomly with each other, so you have to count different primes up to the correct number. So, what else, what else, what else? Oh yes, he introduced me to something called ONXIM.com. So this website actually lets you create an account and lists all the different websites and services that you also have an account on so that people can figure out, oh, so Desik Mariek is on Second Life, but he also has Flickr, Yahoo, Google, YouTube, everything is listed there, so that was kind of interesting. Of course, there was a problem with that one, is that they don’t really authenticate or prove that you really do have that account, so I could just make an account and say, hey, I’m Bill Gates and I have this service and this service and this service.
There’s no proof the credit is not there. So, alright, I think we should let you go with another song, just one more for the night and we’ll kill you a little. Aha, Gore Girls, Gore Gore Girls in All Grown Up, so let’s give that a listen. I can do it, I can do it, oh, no more ponytail, I’m a little high, because I’m 17 and that’s the reason why. Now I’m all grown up and I don’t know what I want to go see, who I want to see, stay out of the way, I’m all grown up and I’ll do what I want to be, who I want to be, I can hardly wait, when I’m going on dates, every Saturday night, and if you want a kiss, I’m going to say alright, I got my needs on, I’m ready to go, I’m going to go to town, I’m going to see you sure. Now I’m all grown up and I don’t know what I want to go see, who I want to see, stay out of the way, I’m all grown up and I’ll do what I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be, who I want to be alone with and no one to para que de a ruido Say I say, I’m gonna go see who I wanna
Speaker 3: see Darn, I was doing so great too.
Speaker 1: Alright, so let’s get that running again. Hello, shows you not to experiment while you’re doing a podcast. So, I’ll grown up. It sounds a lot like 50’s kind of music for some reason. I grew up with a lot of oldies, not scarring up, so it’s familiar. What do we got? Ah yes, Second Life, Odd Life and Nature Reserve. This place is located in Kishin Jotun. So, what you do is you go there and you take a look at the little garden there. They have a lot of little squirrels walking around and crickets and spiders and little vats of different colors and varieties and such.
What I liked about it was that we could buy any of these. Where I really found out about it was my friend, the traveling avatar William Petrae, actually had a little rat running around over an Edelow in the Twilight Gardens. I went and found the crater and I just zoomed on over the crater who is a cloud ensue. These pets, the squirrels I think were like 300 some odd lindens and I think the rats were like 280. You can also buy 10 of them for almost maybe like 8 times the price. I like the squirrels because they make noises, they run around and they actually have nuts that they drop on the ground as they run around. The nuts of course do the res after a little bit. I think they’re just 10-point res. It’s a really nice touch and it really adds to my little wood bridge sim. Anyway, this has been Blue Hair episode 13. I guess I had my little thing of bad luck. Go ahead and take a picture if you can. I’ll see you next time. See you later. Bye.
Speaker 2: Thank you for watching.
