Summary
In this twenty-first Dreamy Audio entry, Lewis Moten recounts a dream that begins as a home-improvement puzzle—unfinished stairs from basement to kitchen, mismatched flooring, hidden layers of linoleum, and concerns about what can safely support weight. The space is under constant revision, wired oddly like a dance floor, with practical needs clashing against improvised construction.
The dream turns abruptly when the stairs are destroyed, trapping people below. A sudden act of violence forces emergency response, investigation, and uneasy theorizing about collective exposure to something that caused instability. It ends suspended between cause and uncertainty, where structure, safety, and sanity all feel temporarily unreliable.

I was dreaming that there was the, uh, I was in the basement and I saw that someone was building steps, see upstairs, to a kitchen. And I tried going up the steps but they were a little unstable, but I was able to get up them anyway. And then, uh, we were looking at the rug at the top. Or, that was the rug, it was just regular wood. But then, we were starting to talk about the linoleum on the kitchen floor and how it had to match the, uh, the wood or something. And we pulled up the linoleum and there was even, uh, some blue linoleum, but it was just, uh, just a little bit of it. And then, we pulled that up and we saw that the wood matched the, uh, the landing of the stairs anyway. And then, we pulled it all up and I started complaining that it, there was this black stuff that was sort of like paper that went down a little bit between each rafter.
And I was complaining that it wasn’t really stable enough to support anybody. Uh, later on, someone started wiring, they were pretty much wiring it for a dance floor or something, it was weird. But it turns out that they were trying to make, uh, each wire to a plug, like a 3-prong plug outlet.
And I was mentioning to them, well hey, can you, uh, drop two or three plugs down to the basement where we’re working on the steps anyway, because we don’t have any, uh, we are very limited on where we can plug things in down there. And I guess it’s sure, yeah. Anyway, let’s speed ahead. I was down, no, my mother-in-law was downstairs complaining about something. And I started going down the steps, I noticed they were like broken a bit. And as I made my way down, they broke two months that, um, we wouldn’t be able to get back up. And it turns out that my brother went to all these steps and chopped them up with an axe. I don’t know why, but he went crazy.
And in real life, my brother is nothing like this. Somehow I was able to get back upstairs, call 911. A fire truck came with a police car.
Uh, they helped everybody get out. And then later on, detectives and such were going through every little thing around the house trying to find out why he would have gone berserk. And then I was explaining to the guy, you know, I was a little crazy earlier that night, but it wasn’t as bad. And the theory was going around that maybe we all were exposed to something that made us a little nutty. But I don’t know. Alright, that’s it.
